Woman flees car accident that starts fire on Hardy street

HATTIESBURG, Miss - Early morning on Tuesday, 23, Sara Anger fled the scene of a car accident, after driving her Kia Forte into an abandoned building which caught fire on Hardy and 2nd Street.

The Hattiesburg Fire Department was dispatched to the scene with around 12 firefighters to fight the blaze.

Chief Presley said, "She got out of the car and walked out, the car caught the building on fire."

Authorities located Anger through several witnesses and information in the car moments after the accident. Anger fled to 521 Southern Avenue and was arrested at the scene.

Lieutenant Traxler of the Hattiesburg Police Department (HPD) and Chief Presley believe that Anger was under the influence.

"She appeared to be intoxicated, but due to not finding her behind the wheel or within a close proximity of the crash, we were not able to charge her with a DUI at this time" Lt. Traxler said.

"We think she was intoxicated" said Chief Presley.

Anger was charged with misdemeanor fleeing the scene and was not injured in the accident said Lt. Traxler.

HPD is still investigating the case.
