Shady grove volunteer fire department receives brand new truck

JONES COUNTY, Miss - Shady Grove Volunteer Fire department received a brand new 2016 commercial fire truck from Deep South Fire Truck.

The department waited a year for their FEMA grant approval. The new truck carries 3 times the water than their old 1969 Mack fire truck which they had for 47 years.

Fire Chief David Houston said, "The state only gives trucks 15 to 20 years of service at a time."

Houston said that they paid a grant writer $11,000 to write the grant.

"We got this quarter of a million dollar truck for $11,000" said Chief Houston. The department saved and raised the money for ten years.

The truck will not only service the community with more water quantity, but the new truck will lower home insurance rates too.

The station's fire rating is currently at an 8 for home owner's insurance.
