HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Public School District is laying off more than 50 employees at the end of this school year.
Director of Communications Jas N Smith said, "Dr. Ladner has been working on plans in how to address the budget crisis."
The laid off employees range from teachers to school administration and comes after the district's financial budge crisis last year. HPSD is hoping to save money to maintain a stable school budget.
"One of the ways we are addressing that (school budget) is cutting back on our staffing numbers for the following year. A number of people were notified that they were laid off for the 2016-2017 school year" said Smith.
HPSD is still evaluating the budget if more layoffs are seen in the near future.
