LAUREL, Miss. - Laurel Police department found over 1,000 stolen master card gift cards after a routine traffic stop.
Javier Hernandez Garcia, 29, and Licen Ryner Vega, 22, were stopped on Interstate 59. Officer Jamie Moulds searched the car after the driver of the vehicle did not have a license.
Captain Tommy Cox said, "Once we made the arrest we took possession of the gift cards and through further investigation we found out that the cards were stolen through the New Jersey area."
It is believed that Garcia and Vega were transporting the cards between the northeast and Texas.
Cpt. Cox said that the crime did not occur in the area. Cpt. Cox added, "They were in possession of stolen property, so that is the charge we are going with."
Garcia and Vega were not alone in the vehicle, a female passenger was in the car but it was revealed through further investigation she was not part of the crime.
Both Garcia and Vega have their initial hearing Friday.
