Jones Co. flooding

Jones County, Miss. - Several areas in South Mississippi experienced quite a bit of rain Thursday night, but Jones County experienced a little bit more than other areas.

Rodney Parker, Jones County Emergency Management Agency deputy director said, "The eastern portion of the county got really heavily hit with rain yesterday. Over a two-hour period, we got upwards of 4.5 inches in some very specific areas. There in the Tucker's Cross Glade area communities. Even as far north of Shady Grove."

Parker said there were heavy winds that caused trees to fall down and even some power outages. But, no building flood damage has been reported.

Parker said "we had several flooded roadways. Most of that water has fallen out. The Jones County Supervisors have been out picking up barricades and re-opening roads."

But there are still some major concerns in some areas in Jones County.

Parker said "one area that we are concerned with is Southeast to the City of Laurel, along the Bogue Homa Creek, We'll see a rise over the next 24 hours and then areas south of there down towards Ovett, we can see continuing to rise for probably 36 hours."

Parker said there's a slight chance it can rain Saturday morning, but as far as the weekend goes, it should look pretty decent.
