Hub-City generating new businesses, economy growing

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Businesses are booming in the downtown area, and it is definitely helping the local economy grow. A variety of stores opened early April which well generate cash-flow in the city.

After a brief hiatus the famous Bottling Company will re-open its doors in a few weeks to host special events and concerts.

A few of the new stores includes food services like the Porter and clothing attire, such as, the Weekender.

Director of Business Development of the Area Development Partnership, Todd Jackson, mentioned the sales tax has increased since 2010 and the new businesses will bring in money into the city.

"We have seen sales tax in all the state of Mississippi, but here in Hattiesburg we have an additional 2% for tourism and then food and beverage."

He said the cash flow will go back into helping the city grow in areas of tourism and attraction.
