Lamar county board of supervisors speak against H'burg land annexation
LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. - The City of Hattiesburg is receiving some backlash after recently passing an annexation ordinance on Tuesday.
Hattiesburg is hoping to annex land from both Forrest and Lamar county to generate tax revenue for the city.
Lamar county officials are not too fond of this proposal and board supervisor Philip Carlisle mentioned he wants to protect the counties' corridors.
"They continue to come out west, they continue to take our corridors, which is the heart of the county and it is blatantly apparent that Lamar county for Hattiesburg is a revenue source" said Carlisle.
Carlisle said the board is currently working with an experience lawyer to fight against the annexation.
