Bond set for Petal shooting suspect

PETAL, Miss. - Denzel Johnson, 20, of Hattiesburg is charged with aggravated assault and carjacking Monday afternoon.

Johnson was caught in Forrest county after shooting two males at Bancorp South.

Officers said that Johnson met three males through an online trade to exchange car speakers for cash.

All four males met in Petal and drove to Bancorp South to withdrawal money from an ATM. According to Petal Detective (Det.) Sammy Ray, "Johnson pulled out a hand gun striking one 19-year-old male and one 15-year-old juvenile."

Officers said that after Johnson shot both victims, he took off south towards George Street and was later apprehended by Forrest county deputies.

Det. Ray said the bullets grazed both victims' skin and are not facing any life-threatening injuries.

Johnson's bond is set at $5,000.00 on two counts of aggravated assault and $2,500.00 for carjacking.
