Vehicle hits pedestrian near Highway 84

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - This is a press release from the Jones county volunteer fire department.

At 9:46PM on Thursday, units from M&M, Powers and Glade Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a report of a pedestrian that had been hit by a vehicle on Masonite Lake Road near the intersection of Highway 84 East.

A Jones County Sheriff's Department Deputy arrived on scene first, followed quickly by Powers Rescue 3. Firefighters and Emergency Medical Responders were advised that an adult female had been struck by a vehicle and was laying in the roadway.

The patient was unresponsive and had suffered what appeared to be critical, life-threatening injuries. A priority request was made for Rescue 7 Air Ambulance to meet EMServ, who initially transported the victim, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel to transport the patient to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg for treatment.

The patient was considered to be in extreme critical condition when being transported to Forrest General Hospital.

According to reports, the occupants of the truck that struck the pedestrian sustained no injuries, but the truck did sustain enough damage to be towed by a wrecker from the scene.

Masonite Lake Road was closed to traffic for over an hour as rescue and accident investigation activities were conducted. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Jones County Sheriff's Department.
