USM Campus Police Officer receives an inaugural award

Hattiesburg, Miss. - The campus of USM was filled with happy graduates Friday, but one of the campus officers is still smiling about an inaugural award she recently received.

Cpt. Lisa Carter, University of Southern Miss Campus special operations commander, said, "I was honored to receive this award and to be in the first inaugural class. It just means all the hard work that you put in, it does get recognized by people you don't see on a daily basis."

The Hattiesburg Hundred honored six other local law enforcement officers and first responders on May 5, and Carter was just humbled to be a part of that experience.

"I want to thank chief for honoring me and it is an honor being in the first class. There are other officers out there who are deserving of it too that go unrecognized that do the same job, said Carter."

Officers from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Forrest County and Lamar County Sheriff's Department and others received this award.
