HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Department of Athletics announced today that the Golden Eagle baseball team will play their opening game of the Conference USA Tournament, Wednesday, May 25, at 4 p.m. The 21st-annual event takes place at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.

The top eight regular-season finishers of the 12 C-USA schools takes part in next week’s festivities at The Pete. The Golden Eagles, along with Rice, Marshall, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech and Old Dominion have all clinched spots in the event.

While the team has normally played the final game of the day in the opening round of the tournament when they have hosted the tournament, the game time switch was two-fold for Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry.

“We made this move for two reasons,” said Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry. “One, these games typically run long and that last game, which is slated for 7:30 p.m., rarely starts on time. We wanted our fans to be able to enjoy the tournament atmosphere, as well as give our players the most possible rest prior to the next day’s game.”

The other game times for the opening day of the tournament include 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the 2016 Conference USA Baseball Tournament, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, can be purchased online at SouthernMissTickets.com, by phone at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or in person at the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m., until 5 p.m.
