Coach Berry is happy to beat Old Dominion with mercy rule

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagles silenced all of their critics Wednesday night after their big 17-5 win against Old Dominion.

The game was stopped in the seventh inning due to the mercy rule.

Head coach, Scott Berry said, "Real proud of our offense. We went on to score four out of the next five innings to keep the momentum going. Of course the one inning was an eight-run spot, but we had some really, really important at-bats I thought throughout the game."

"Every coach here would love to have a run-rule if they could, just to save their pitches, save their team, all that. But, I thought at that time, particularly after we had given up the five-spot out of the four, that the statement there that we weren't stopping, the foot was going to stay on the pedal, said Berry."

Southern Miss plays Marshall Thursday night at 7:30.
