HPD searching for shooting suspect, victim in critical condition

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Hattiesburg authorities are searching for a suspect after a shooting at the Texaco gas station. The incident occurred on Highway 49 and Helveston street Monday evening.

Lieutenant Jon Traxler said upon arrival authorities were advised by people that the victim had left the scene going to the local hospital by a private vehicle.

Authorities then received a call of a car accident which involved the victim.

"It involved two vehicles in the intersection of West Pine and Highway 49" said Lt. Traxler.

Four people were transported from the scene of the crash due to injuries.

Lt. Traxler said the suspect may have had an argument with the victim, "shots were fired, which did strike the victim, from what I understand in the head area."

The suspect was gone upon officer's arrival. "We are still trying to get information from people that were on scene that can tell us more about our suspect" Lt. Traxler said.

The male victim is in critical condition.
