Two local men have been arrested for armed carjacking


HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Auto burglaries are common in the Hub City, but armed carjacking is a crime that does not happen too often in Hattiesburg.

Police said they arrested Alonzo Strickland, 27 and Tevon Gaddis, 24, on Friday for armed carjacking.

Hattiesburg Police Officer, Lt. Jon Traxler said, "Hattiesburg Police received a call of an armed carjacking that occurred at the intersection of East 7th and New Orleans. Upon officer’s arrival, they found the victim there advised that he was at the intersection, several Black males approached with a handgun. They then assaulted him. After assaulting him, they stole his truck."

Traxler said the victim recognized one of the suspects and then proceeded to contact the authorities.

"The victim did have to be transported to the hospital, has been released and appears that he will be okay," said Traxler.

The investigation is ongoing.
