Monday shooting kills one in Hattiesburg, suspect sought

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Authorities said a Monday shooting in Hattiesburg is now a homicide investigation after the victim died from his injuries Thursday morning.

Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict said that Madison Sims, 48, was taken off life-support Wednesday night at Forrest General Hospital.

The Hattiesburg Police Department (HPD) mentioned that Sims was shot in the head during an altercation at the Texaco gas station off Highway 49. Lieutenant Jon Traxler said, "We are still searching for the suspect."

Benedict said the body will be sent to the state crime lab in Jackson.
