Laurel residents should be aware of the "Grandparents Scam"

LAUREL, Miss. - The Laurel Police Department is warning the public about some scam problems that have been happening recently.

Police said the “Grandparents Scam” has been going on in the area.

The scammer would call elderly people on the phone and pretend to act as one of their grandchildren. The scammer would also pretend to cry on the phone and say that they are either in jail, injured, or in desperate need of money.

The citizen would be directed to a preloaded green dot credit card and that is where the citizen would lose their money.
