HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Sacred Heart Vacation Bible School donated about $300 to the Hattiesburg Zoo’s conservation efforts.
Sacred Heart Vacation Bible School volunteer, Candace Barquero said she was inspired to teach the children about the environment this summer after reading Pope Francis’ Encyclical that discusses the care of the environment and God's creation.
“We offered this to children grades pre-k to 6th grade with the goal being to teach them about recycling, reusing, and reducing,” Barquero said.
Jeremy Cumpton Hattiesburg Zoo Outreach Manager said, "I was so happy about it myself because conservation are the roles that people should take on, we want to make sure that these animals survive not only here in the zoo, but in the wild as well."
“A big part of caring for God's creation is watching over the animals that He has entrusted to us and the Hattiesburg Zoo does a wonderful job of caring for creatures big and small" said Barquero.
