Jones county school district receives new school buses

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - The Jones County School District purchased 38 new school buses for the 2016 Fall school year.

Jones County Superintendent Tommy Parker said the new purchase will make it possible to replace the older model buses that will be sold by public auction. The money raised at the auction will go towards the department's transportation fund.

Superintendent Parker said the cost of the new 38 school buses cost approximately $2 million. "Of the 38 buses, 36 will be regular routes, and 2 will be special needs buses" Parker added.

According to Parker the new buses are not only safer, but will help save the district money. "The benefit of this is not only the safe transportation for our students, but we expect it to cut back on our maintenance cost" said Parker.

He added, "These buses are more fuel efficient, than our older buses."

The buses will be used en route on the first day of school August 4.
