Hub-City MasterChef contestant appointed team captain, Top 12

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - A Hub-City MasterChef contestant, Katie Dixon, made Top 12 in last week's FOX's television series MasterChef.

"In last week's organ challenge, I knew it was going to be a challenge, but a challenge is something I have always enjoyed" said Dixon.

Dixon said cooking organs is not her forte, but she managed to create a top dish. "He gave me the lamb kidney, thinking I would not perform well with it...since he thought I was a very healthy cook" added Dixon.

She said she was up for the challenge, and wanted to make the best dish possible.

"Chef Edward Lee actually looked at me and I was so nervous, and he paused, and said it was the best curry he had ever tasted in his life" Dixon said.

In this week's show Katie created one out of the two top dishes, and was appointed team captain. She said she will have no trouble stepping into a leadership role.

"I really have to give a big thank you to Hattiesburg residents for letting me be a leader in the community" Dixon said. Dixon has familiarized herself in various community roles in Hub-City.

She continued, "Such organizations like Junior Auxiliary, I also have to admit that my biggest highlight of my month is getting to do cooking demos at the ARC Southeast Mississippi."

The two teams will battle in a Sweet Sixteen party for the best entrees to avoid the dreaded pressure test.

You can watch Dixon's MasterChef journey Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
