Late night car accident kills 1, injures 2 in Petal

PETAL, Miss. - Forrest County deputies and Sunrise Fire department responded to a deadly accident in the Sunrise community Tuesday night.

The incident occurred on Davis Road around 10 p.m. said Investigator Nick Calico with the Forrest County Sheriff's department.

Calico said the driver of the vehicle was traveling Northbound and lost control of the car and flipped twice in front of a residential home.

"The front passenger was ejected out of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene" said Calico.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Calico said during the initial investigation weather did not appear as a factor.

"It was stated that the driver may have been trying to avoid some type of animal in the road way" added Calico.

The two other occupants in the vehicle did not sustain serious injuries and were not transported to any medical facility said Calico.
