LAUREL, Miss. - The veto hearing between Wayne Farms and the City of Laurel concluded Tuesday.

Laurel City Council granted Wayne Farms with a 5-2 vote to have the property tax exemption for five years.

Mayor of Laurel, Johnny Magee said, “It’s unfortunate because I don't think they listened to their constituents. I don't think they did what was in the best interest of the City of Laurel. Right now we're trying to balance a budget and every little bit helps. We've got a lot of cuts that have to be made and this is just taking money out of the city coffers."

Magee said he thanks the community support in his attempt to veto Wayne Farms property tax exemption and that he does not plan to veto the tax exemption again in the near future.
