JONES COUNTY, Miss. - This is a press release from Jones County Sheriff's Department.
Jones County Sheriff’s Investigators received information the first week of August 2016 verifying a mother had used methamphetamine while pregnant.
Child Protective Services (CPS) delivered a referral packet to Jones County Sheriff’s Investigators that stated a child was born prematurely on July 14, 2016 to Sara Pace, 26 of Laurel, and Kevin Hall, 43 of Laurel.
The hospital informed CPS the baby had tested positive for methamphetamine, and a few weeks later extensive medical records verified the initial findings.
On August 7, 2016 Pace was taken into custody on a warrant and interviewed.
She admitted to smoking methamphetamine just prior to giving birth and she believed her use of the narcotic led to her going into premature labor.
Pace went on to admit the father of the baby, Hall, had continually provided, and smoked with her, methamphetamine throughout her pregnancy.
An arrest warrant was issued for Hall on August 8, 2016. He turned himself in the same day.
Pace and Hall are charged with Felonious Child Abuse. The infant is in the custody of CPS.
Both bonds were set at $10,000.
