With this graduation, the Laurel Police Department now has a father-son combo in the force.
Laurel Police Officer, Curt Bassett said, "Everybody says like policing there's the calling or whatever, and I guess I got the calling. It was just something I always felt like I needed to do."
Laurel Police Officer, Chad Bassett said, "It's a calling that you feel deep down. You want to give something back to your community and at the same time, that's my son. So it's proud and fearful at the same time."
The last new officer is originally from Ellisville and he is glad to work for a department that is close to home.
Laurel Police Officer, Jarone’ Walker said, "Something I wanted to do, just try to make a change in Laurel, Mississippi that's all. I'm happy to be at Laurel Police Department."
