Tori Bowie takes Silver in 100 meter race

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Former Southern Miss track standout Tori Bowie captured the Silver Medal Saturday evening at the Rio Olympics in the 100 meters race.

Bowie ran in lane five sandwiched between two favored Jamaican sprinters. Another photo finish for the group landed Bowie a second-place showing, clocking in at 10.86 seconds.

Bowie, started the weekend off right as she won her Round 1 heat with a time of 11.18 seconds that would put her in good position moving into today’s semifinals.

In the semis, Bowie surged forward forcing a photo finish; after further review she won her semifinal heat with a time 10.90 seconds.

Another former Golden Eagle, Mariam Kromah, competed in the Women’s 400 meters earlier in the day and she finished fifth in her heat; just short of qualifying for the semifinals.

Bowie continues her medal journey when she competes in the 200 meters, Aug. 15 at 7:35 a.m.

Later in the week she will also compete in the Women’s 4x100m which takes place on Aug. 18 at 9:20 a.m.
