HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Department has one officer who is becoming one of the best DUI officers in the state.

This officer is only in his second year.

Hattiesburg DUI Police Officer, Jason Jarvis said, "It really means a lot to my community. This is how I repay the community. I get those drivers off the streets. That's my main goal is to make these streets safer for everyone to operate."

The first award he received was for the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign."

"The most overall arrests in the state of Mississippi with 23 DUI arrests during that two-week period," said Jarvis.

The second award was for having the most DUI arrests in the state, with 353 DUI arrests for the year 2015.

Jarvis has more than 600 DUI arrests in his career so far.

Hattiesburg Police Officer, Lt. Jon Traxler said, "The combination of him and the patrol officers working together, sobriety checkpoints, which are some of the things we do as well. He comes out and works those with us. So we just wanted to make sure the public was aware. But also, to let the citizens know that we're here doing everything we can to keep everyone safe."

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign officially started Friday and will end on September 5.

There are only two police officers in the “300 DUI Arrests Club,” which are Officer Jarvis and Gulfport Police Officer, Blake Tucker.
