Local man arrested, domestic violence

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - A Jones County man is now behind bars.

Jones County deputies said they responded to a possible assault call on August 26 on Ben Thompson Road.

Deputies conversed with the female victim who said her boyfriend, Steven Smith, 31, assaulted her.

She said Smith woke her up and was on top of her, choking her with one hand and hitting her in the face with his other hand.

Smith previously had two convictions of simple assault/domestic violence and now faces a felony domestic violence charge.

His bond is set for $7,500.
