Mississippi Highway Patrol enforces holiday weekend, more checkpoints

PINE BELT, Miss. - Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) will have an more troopers on the highways during the holiday weekend patrol.
Spokesman Officer Brent Barfield with MHP said, "Hattiesburg Troop J will have 19 extra-funded federally shifts."
Barfield said motorists can expect more checkpoints in an effort to promote safety.
He said, "You got your families in the vehicle, but please do not speed." Barfield added, "I am asking take your time getting where you need to get to."
The holiday period begins Friday at 6 p.m. and ends Monday at midnight.
Officer Barfield said he hopes there will be zero fatalities across the state during the holiday weekend patrol.
