Southern Miss defeats Kentucky, 44-35

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagles snapped their 13-game losing streak against SEC opponents Saturday night with an impressive 44-35 victory against Kentucky.

Both the coaches and players were thrilled with the victory.

Head coach, Jay Hopson said, "It's always good to get a win, especially against an SEC opponent. We enjoyed it that night. I think it was fun. It was a fun night and certainly I think as players and coaches, we enjoyed it."

Tight end, Julian Allen said, "That's the first time we beat an SEC team in over 15 years. Just to be a part of that is an awesome feeling. We worked so hard all off-season, all Fall camp."

"This week coming in, we prepared in every way we could. Guys were in the film room putting extra work in, and it paid off. Coach Hop says all the time, 'we get what we deserve.' And we definitely got what we deserved on Saturday night," said Allen.

Southern Miss will play their first home game of the season against Savannah State Saturday at 6 p.m.
