Game of the Week: Oak Grove vs. Petal

PETAL, Miss. - Oak Grove and Petal are two 6A Region 3 teams that match-up well against each other.

Both teams are trying to finish first in their region.

Oak Grove head coach, Drew Causey said, "It's a big cross-town rival. You know it's a big game for getting in the playoffs and everything else. It's just an all-around big game for both teams."

"You know where 1-0 in our region and they're 1-0 also, so unfortunately, one of us Friday night will be 1-1 and one is going to be 2-0," said Petal head coach, Marcus Boyles.

Petal native, Coach Causey wants to get a win in his hometown.

"It's always fun playing those guys the last few years. It's also very nerve-wracking that whole week, because my family still lives over there and I got a lot of friends that I grew up with that still lives in Petal," said Causey.

Coach Boyles will try his best to not let Coach Causey win.

"We need to come out really ready to play and we've been a slow starter here for the last couple of games. And we need to come out here ready to play football Friday night," said Boyles.

Ever since the Warriors made a quarterback change three weeks ago, the offense has been on fire.

"I think they're happy about it. Good to see that we're back to playing Oak Grove football again. We got our swagger back you can say. Community seems to be responding to that a little bit," said Oak Grove quarterback, John Rhyes Plumlee.

Panther cornerback, Detric Carter will do what he has to do to limit the Warriors offensive attack.

"Just work hard, don't get beat over the top, play my calls right, have good foot work and play the ball," said Carter.

Oak Grove is planning on limiting Petal's lethal offensive attack led by running back, Stephon Huderson and quarterback, Tanner Estill.

"We just got to play our game and execute. We'll be good," said Oak Grove linebacker, Hayes Maples.

Plumlee recently had a breakout performance against Hattiesburg and the Panthers know if they frustrate him, there is a good chance they will come out on top.

Petal nose guard, Chris Monroe said, "It'll be awesome. Since I've been here the last three years in my career, we haven't beaten them. So to get this win will be very important."

Kickoff will be Friday night at 7 at Petal High School.
