Pregnant Jones co. woman behind bars, takes drugs during 3rd term

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - This is a press release from the Jones County Sheriff's Department.

On October 3, 2016, Jones County Sheriff’s Narcotics Investigators received information that Tiffney Dement, 32 of Laurel, would be attempting to sell 20 Hydrocodone pills in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Laurel.

Investigators arrived on the scene and quickly observed Dement walking through the lot, appearing to hold something in her hand. She walked to her vehicle, then began walking around the parking lot again as if she was searching for someone.

Investigators made contact with Dement and asked what she was doing. She stated she had lost her car and was looking for it, however was standing beside it. She was asked if she had anything illegal on her and she stated she did.

She then opened her hand to reveal 20 loose Hydrocodone pills. Dement told Investigators she was taking the tabs to her car because they were melting inside the store. She said she had decided to put them in a cool place, in her car.

Dement was placed under arrest and transported to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department to be interviewed. During the interview, she admitted to attempting to sell the pills at the store and admitted she had stolen the pills from her grandmother, who has a host of medical problems.

Dement also stated she had used methamphetamine, marijuana and hydrocodone within the last week. She is six months pregnant.

Dement is charged with Felonious Child Abuse and Possession of a Controlled Substance with the intent to Deliver.

Her bond is set at $30,000.
