Pine Belt Quilters Guild celebrating 16th quilt competition

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Pine Belt Quilters Guild is hosting its 16th Quilt Competition at the Lake Terrace Convention Center Friday thru Sunday.

Hundreds of quilts are hung on display and are uniquely critiqued based off multiple categories.

The Quilters Guild started back in 1984 and the group continues to grow according to Show Chair Martha Ginn.

Ginn said, "Some people say it is a dying craft, it really is not." She added, "One of my friends say 'it can't die, I have too much money invested in fabric'."

The organization recently became a non-profit several years ago, and those involved continued to give and make quilts to those in need.

"I think more people are getting into it, more than before, even young people" said Ginn.

The next Pine Belt Quilters Guild will be in 2018.
