Laurel mayor recognizes 'Housing Awareness' month
LAUREL, Miss. - Mayor Johnny Magee of Laurel signed a proclamation for 'Housing Awareness' month across the nation.
The city said it wants to collectively raise awareness for the need of safe, decent, affordable housing in quality communities.
According to Housing America public housing is home to more than 2 million people, almost 40% of whom are children.
Laurel Housing Director Ailrick Young said, "There is a very real need in communities, that affordable housing be available for everyone."
He added, "In a lot of communities, that need for affordable housing goes unmet."
Events are held around the country by housing authorities, redevelopment agencies, and government entities to spotlight the great works that have been done, and the successes that so many residents have experienced.
