"Drug Take Back," LPD

LAUREL, Miss. - The Laurel Police Department will have its “Drug Take Back” event Saturday to give people a chance to properly throw away any drugs they might have.

Laurel Police Officer, Cpt. Tommy Cox said, "Anyone that wants to come by between 10-2 p.m. on Saturday that has unused, expired, unwanted prescription drugs, come by Laurel Police Department. You can drop them off. No questions asked, and they'll be properly disposed of."

Laurel Police will accept prescription drugs that are suppository or in pill-form.

"Prescription drug abuse is a bad problem in this country and in Jones County. Also, they say you don't want to dispose the drugs by throwing them in the landfill or down the sink, or down the toilet, because they can get back in the water system and might cause problems," said Cox.

Cox said the department has collected more than 300lbs of prescription drugs in the last three years, and expects to collect more in the future.
