Hattiesburg police hosts "Drug Take Back" event, no questions

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Department (HPD) will host its "Drug Take Back" event Saturday at the department.

Citizens can drop off any unused prescription or over the counter medicine without question.

HPD spokesman, Lt. Jon Traxler said the department wants to ensure drugs are taken off the streets properly.

He said, “We just want to get that off the streets, get it out of all the houses, cut down on any type of drug abuse or overdoses."

"We definitely don’t want people putting that into any toilets or into a trash can and letting it get into a landfill because then it dissolves and gets back into our water system" added Lt. Traxler.

The event is between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
