Pearl River Valley Electric gives away $33k in scholarship money for JCJC students
JONES COUNTY, Miss. - Peal River Valley Electric (PRVC) awarded 36 students at Jones County Junior College (JCJC) about $33,000. The organization has a "Round-Up for Education" program where members have the option to round up to the nearest dollar.
Kirk Brautigam PRVC Manager said the remainder of the change goes towards students in community college.
This year all 36 students at JCJC received around $900 each in scholarship money.
“It’s just a hallmark of a cooperative, it’s improving the quality of life, you know all the folks in our service territory, we want them to have an opportunity to go to college" said Brautigam.
Freshman student, Victoria Williford said, “Education is super important, I think you need it, for anything you do in life, definitely furthering your education, college is super important because you pretty much need it for every job."
Another student, Scott Prats added, "My family is putting two kids through college, and for any family, that is hard, this scholarship means a lot, it’s a blessing, it is just a blessing.”
This is PRVC's 4th year helping students across the state. As of next year Brautigam said PRVC will have raised $1 million for students and their education.
