Laurel Middle School students, LPD celebrate "Red Ribbon Week"

LAUREL, Miss. - The Laurel Police Department and students from Laurel Middle School were at First Church of God to celebrate the end of "Red Ribbon Week."

Laurel Police Officer, Sgt. Shannon Caraway said, "This particular year, our theme was 'You Only Live Once.' Be drug free. So basically, we got together did a lot of literature, went to our schools, did a lot of speaking about drug awareness, how to make better choices when being pressured or tempted to use drugs. So, I think we did a pretty good job this year."

Some of the kids gave the Laurel Police Department a thumbs up on a job well done.

Student, Zipporah Husband said, "This week helps kids understand that drugs is not a good thing and that it's bad for your health."

"It is a great, great thing, because if we can keep one child from using drugs then this is all worth it," said Mayor of Laurel, Johnny Magee.

Caraway said 216 kids participated in "Red Ribbon Week."
