HATTIESBURG, Miss. - According to the Mississippi Forestry Commission, 827 wildfires have burned 2,400 acres and threatened more than 1,200 structures.

There have been 41 damaged or destroyed structures since September 1, 2016.

Forrest and Lamar County has been added to the burn ban.

Public outreach forester, Bill Kitchings said, "Don't do any type of outdoor burning right now. The situation is getting to the extreme and it's extremely dangerous right now. With the low humidifies, the low fuel moisture, the drought combined. If we have any wind, all it's going to take is one spark to cause a fire to ignite and start and spread rapidly."

Kitchings said if you're going to barbeque make sure to not throw the coals on the ground when you're done.
