One man dead after Hub-City shooting, police searching for suspect

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Department is searching for a suspect after a shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

The incident occurred Monday around 10 p.m. at the 3300 block of Prince George Street.

HPD spokesman, Lt. Jon Traxler said they received a call of shots fired.

When police arrived on scene they found two victims suffering from a gun shot wound. Lt. Traxler said both were taken to Forrest General Hospital.

According to Forrest County coroner Jonathon Nobles, "The victim was identified as Frank Jenkins, 64."

Jenkins' landscaper for 6 years told FOX 23 news he was shocked. “I mean they were nice, they were always polite and everything, to everybody and everything else you know, and I mean I never had a problem with him or nothing, I mean he was a nice guy" said Kent Weber.

Authorities said the other victim is in critical condition and the case is still under investigation.

“If there is anyone who may have any information, no matter how small, or how great they think it may be, we ask that they please call the Hattiesburg Police Department, or they can even call Metro Crime Stoppers, and if that information does lead to an arrest, they do get a reward for that" said Lt. Traxler.
