SPAS finds more than 200 homes for animals during Black Friday weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Black Friday deals were not just at the stores, but at the Southern Pines Animal Shelter (SPAS).

During Black Friday weekend, pets were able to get adopted without an adoption fee, and its surprised everyone how many found homes.

“Our goal was to complete 250 adoptions, and we were just overwhelmed by the positive response from the community, and we actually completed 261 adoptions" said SPAS Manager Ginny Sims.

This is the 2nd year SPAS waived adoption fees, and they are happy they beat last year's goal. “We were able to complete 208 adoptions and so we were thrilled to see an increase in pets adopted this year" said Sims.

She said the shelter was overflowing with animals and finding a home right before Christmas is a gift they wanted to give their four-legged friends.

Sims added, "It was a wonderful experience and really warmed out hearts to see how many people were choosing to adopt for the first time and to see them have a positive experience, and to take their new pet home.

"Just to see not only the pet find a home, but to know there is going to be a lot of love in the community, as a result of that adoption.”
