FGH and Extra Table announce art show winners
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - This is a press release from Forrest General Hospital.
Forrest General Heart and Vascular Services, in conjunction with Extra Table, announced the winners of the Home is Where the Heart is for the Holidays themed art competition, Friday, December 2.
To compete, students from Forrest and Lamar County schools decorated Christmas cards based on the competition theme. Two finalists from each school were selected for the final competition.
The competition was judged by Jacob Cotton, an award-winning instructor who now teaches in the Department of Art and Design at University of Southern Mississippi; Ed Ford, commercial artist of over 30 years and currently a professor and director of Lucille Parker Gallery at William Carey University; and Susan Stevens, retired high school art educator and full-time artist specializing in oils and pastels.
Cade Slaughter, arts advocate, served as emcee for the awards presentation and luncheon. Slaughter, currently a senior at Sacred Health Catholic High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, is the founder of Supply the Art, a community-wide art supply drive benefitting area schools and students.
Through this project, Cade collected over 6000 art supplies and $1500 in donations. The following were winners for the elementary division: Barrett McDonald of Sumrall Elementary in first place, Kadence Patton of the 3D School in second place, and Claire Norwood of Long Leaf Elementary in third place.
The winners for the middle/junior high division were: Sarah Seale of Petal Upper Elementary in first place, Raegan Anderson of Purvis Middle School in second place, and Ashton May of Hattiesburg Home School in third place.
Tori Rucinski of Sumrall High School won first place in the high school division. L & C Contractors, Inc. generously provided prizes for the winners.
This holiday season, Extra Table will be working to distribute tons of fresh, healthy food to more than 20 soup kitchens and food pantries throughout Mississippi in an effort to help feed the over 670,000 Mississippians who are hungry every day.
