LPD is ready for its "Shop with a Cop" event

LAUREL, Miss. - The Laurel Police Department (LPD) will have its annual "Shop with a Cop" event Saturday morning at the Walmart in Laurel.

This is a chance for less fortunate kids to be able to spend quality time with police officers and to also receive some cool gifts.

Laurel Police Officer, Sgt. Michael Reaves said, "Most of the officer’s takeaway as much from it as the children do. We're able to give back to the community. We're able to help disadvantage children. A lot of these children that we're helping this year come from diverse backgrounds. Some of these children have suffered tragedies in the last year where they've lost parents or family members, and things like that. So, there's obviously a need there. But, there's also some heartache there. So, hopefully we can bring some joy to those children during the Christmas season."

LPD also worked with Laurel Ford Lincoln and Kia of Laurel.

After the kids are done shopping, they will head over to Laurel Ford Lincoln and Kia of Laurel to pick out another toy.
