Man Survives Potentially Deadly Motorcycle Wreck

JONES, COUNTY, Miss. - This is a press release from Jones County Volunteer Fire Department.

A man avoided certain death after his motorcycle collided with a bridge Saturday afternoon. At 1:45 p.m., units from Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene of the one vehicle accident on Matthews Road near Highway 15 North.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the heavily damaged motorcycle lying about 75 yards from the bridge it had struck, and the driver, who had managed to walk back to the bridge before collapsing, lying on the ground.

The force of the impact ejected the rear wheel and part of the bike into a wooded area several feet from the bridge.

According to reports, the adult male driver of the bike sustained what was believed to be minor to moderate injuries and was transported by EMServ ambulance to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment.

According to a firefighter on scene, the severity of the accident should have claimed the man's life, but he was fortunate to only sustain non-life threatening injuries.

One lane of the road was shutdown during rescue and cleanup operations.

Emergency personnel on scene included Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department, EMServ Ambulance Service,

Jones County Sheriff's Department and Jones County Fire Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell.

Fire apparatus included Shady Grove Rescue 1 and 2.
