Hub City Special Olympics basketball team plays during halftime of UTSA vs. USM

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hub City Special Olympics basketball team was invited to come and watch Southern Miss play UTSA Thursday night.

But, that was not all.

They also got to play some basketball at halftime in front of Golden Eagle fans.

Director, Amber Wadsworth said, "They did so good. Allison (Garner), she's probably a foot shorter than a lot of our athletes, and she hustled. We just had a ball. We really enjoyed it tonight."

"It was fun because both teams were both awesome, and we both competed," said Garner.

Wadsworth said "it's great practice for them. It gets them out of their element. It teaches them social skills, just at the school, get to meet new people. It's also a great relationship we can make with the university. And that's just really what we're about. We're Hub City. We're black and gold. Southern Miss, Hub City to the top."

Wadsworth said the Special Olympics basketball games will begin in February.
