Pine Belt projected to receive severe weather

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - The Pine Belt is expected to see two rounds of severe weather this weekend.

The first round is scheduled to begin late Friday night.

Jones County EMA director, Marda Tullos said, "This first round could be pretty severe, with large hail, possibly golf ball size hail, possibly larger. And, 1-2 inches of rain, and it could come in a short period of time. So, we'll have to watch out for flash flooding. Early in the morning, 3-8 a.m. is our worst timing. And then during the day, we'll have nothing going on for a good while. But, then ramp up about tomorrow late afternoon into the night."

Tullos said there is a very low chance of a tornado.

Also, the FEMA 361 Shelter in Ellisville is opening at 8 p.m. for people who wish to go there.
