Southern Miss loses a close one to Rice

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagles played Rice Saturday and loss to the Owls, 61-58.

The Golden Eagles were without their starting point guard, Khari Price. But, the team found a way to bounce back and almost defeated Rice.

Head coach, Doc Sadler said, "Offensively, the first half was just bad. But, give our guys credit. I think we got down by 24 I believe. And to come back, and even though it's a long shot obviously, it's a shot."

Backup point guard, D'Angelo Richardson stepped up and orchestrated the offense, and made sure guys were in the right place to score.

"It's a good feeling because I like to seize the moment. And, my coaches were telling me to take advantage of the opportunity since Khari was out. And, I feel like I had to come in and do that for him," said Richardson.

The Golden Eagles came all the way back from their 24-point deficit.

But in the final seconds of the game, the team was not able to capitalize and loss to Rice by three.

"We know what we can do. But, it's just getting everybody to play well. Everybody got to come out and be ready to play. At first, we weren't ready. And we found five guys that were ready to play in the second half," said guard, Cortez Edwards.

Southern Miss will look to bounce back from this loss and try to beat Middle Tennessee on the road Thursday.
