Southern Miss baseball aims for another conference championship

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team had a successful season last year.

The team hosted the conference tournament and won the whole entire thing on an amazing play.

The returning players know they can produce another good season this year, and hopefully make it to Omaha.

Outfielder, Daniel Keating said, "That conference tournament, it was such a special weekend. And, ending with that last play, I don't think it can get much better than that."

"You're not going to beat last year's finish here at Pete Taylor Park in that conference tournament. But, we're going to do whatever we can to give fans some excitement. We got the guys to do it. It's really exciting to think about what we have coming up on our plate. We've got a really exciting team, very athletic team," said left-handed pitcher, Kirk McCarty.

Infielder, Tracy Hadley said, "Oh my goodness man, that's the dream right, for every college team in the world? We can't get ahead of ourselves. But, that has to be one of our goals. But, we got to do it one step at a time. Go to a conference championship, regionals, super regionals, then Omaha. We'll handle it when it gets there. But, it's all a process and we got to continue to get better.

The first game of the season is Feb. 17 at home against Northeastern.
