Lady Eagles stack up another win against UTEP

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss hosted UTEP Saturday and had an impressive performance against the Miners as they won, 73-48.

The Lady Eagles have now won five out of their last six games, and the ladies are feeling pretty good about it.

Guard, Brittanny Dinkins said, "To be a part of something without post-players is big, is huge. It just tells a lot about who we are as individuals. We have a team full of winners."

The Lady Eagles were the smaller team against UTEP, but that did not stop them as they outrebounded the Miners, 48-31.

"UTEP didn't do a very good job of boxing out. The glass was open and we crashed hard. We practiced crashing hard all week, and we got it done tonight," said forward, Lashyra Cotton.

Cotton led the team with 12 rebounds, giving her a new career high. And, Dinkins became the 12th all-time leading scorer in Lady Eagle history with her 26-point performance.

"For me to be up there in them numbers like that lets me know that I will leave something. I will leave my footprint. So, for me, that means a lot. I'm humbled to receive such accolades, and I'm just going to try and keep it going," said Dinkins.

The Lady Eagles have momentum on their side, and they are expecting to play lights out for the rest of the season.

Head coach, Joye Lee-McNelis said, "I've shared with them tonight in the locker room that we're picked 8th preseason. We can't finish there. We can't. Right now, we're tied for 4th in our league, and every game has to count."

"We expect nothing but to come out with a win. Same mentality going on the road with these two games. Most definitely will be special to me, because I'm going back home. And, to have my family behind me on that is just a must win as well," said Dinkins.

The Lady Eagles play FIU on the road Thursday where they are hoping to pick up another win.
