Pine Belt strong race raises $15K, proceeds to help tornado survivors

PINE BELT, Miss. - The Pinebelt Community Foundation's (PBCF) 'Pine Belt Strong Race and Walk' Sunday downtown raised $15,000 for tornado survivors.

The EF-3 tornado battered the Pine Belt for 31 miles, killing 4, injured dozens and damaged over 1,100 homes and businesses including William Carey University.

Officials said there were over 200 participants. All the proceeds will go towards the survivors and community.

PBCF Board Member Steve Ramp said the community is strong. “The solidarity that was generated by that event it generates enthusiasm, and energy for, the long term recovery that lies ahead, so it was a great success."

According to Ramp PBCF has raised half a million dollars for the tornado recovery efforts.
