Hattiesburg police investigating infant's death

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Department (HPD) is investigating the death of an infant.

Police received a call to the 1700 block of West 7th Street Saturday around 2 p.m.

HPD's Lieutenant Jon Traxler said, " Upon arrival officers were advised by the child’s father that he found the child in the bed with the child’s mother and unresponsive."

Authorities said the infant was transported to Forrest General Hospital where the child was pronounced dead.

Police said this is an ongoing investigation.
