Lady Eagles win 7 straight to close out the regular season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Lady Eagles had their Senior Night Friday against Louisiana Tech, and won by a score of 72-63.

The Lady Eagles had a rough start in the first quarter. But, started to turn things around in the second. And from there on, the team did not look back and were able to finish the game off strong.

Head coach, Joye Lee-McNelis said, "Offensively, we just did not stay in flow. And for us to be able to defend the way we did against the size that they had, and for us to get some buckets going the other way, gave us the tremendous win."

Each player contributed for the Lady Eagles. But, freshman forward, Respect Leaphart made La Tech respect her game, as she led all scorers with 19 points, with more than half her points coming from three-point land.

"It's just going back to what you know. You'll never forget the things that you learned. You have to always apply it whenever the time comes. You always got it in your back pocket, so I just used it," said Leaphart.

Senior guard, Brittanny Dinkins performed well on Senior Night, as she knocked down a few shots late in the game to help her team seal the win.

"As a leader, you step up. You either fold or you step up. And tonight, I stepped up. Wasn't a 20-point performance, and that's okay. Somebody told me at the end of the game, I hit them when it counted. And, that's all that matters," said Dinkins.

The Lady Eagles won their last 10/11 games and have the 3rd seed and a 1st round bye going into the conference tournament. And, they will look to continue their impressive form and play to the best of their abilities.

"When the game gets on the line, it's about the grind. It's about who can press on. And because this team has bought into that, that's what made us successful," said Lee-McNelis.
